Central High School Class of 1950
Harrison E. Shutt was a member of the 1950 graduating class of Lima Central High School. He then entered The Ohio State University from which he graduated in 1954 with a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration. Upon completion of his degree he served as a first lieutenant in the U.S. Army between 1954 and 1957.
Returning to Lima in 1957 he went to work at the Kewpee Restaurant and later became owner of the most well known businesses in Lima. Recently, the Kewpee Restaurant was prominently mentioned in a national poll.
As a dedicated member of the Lima community, Mr. Shutt served as trustee of the First Baptist Church, on the Board of Directors for the Allen County Restaurant Association, the board of the West Central Kidney Foundation, the board of the Chamber of Commerce, the board of the Lima Symphony Orchestra, the board of the Greater Downtown Association, the board of American House, and as a member of the livestock sale committee of the Allen County Fair. Also, he has served on the Board of Directors of the Lima Council for the Arts, the Veterans Memorial Civic and Convention Center Foundation and Memorial Hospital Foundation Board.
Among the many awards for his service and dedication to the Lima community were the Sertoma Club Man of the Year Award in 1987, Small Businessman Award from the Lima Chamber of Commerce in 1990, the Lima Exchange Club Book for Golden Deeds Award in 1990, First Honorary Friend of Allen County 4-H in 1991, and All-Ohio Wheelchair Olympic Citizen of the Year in 1991. He also was awarded an honorary doctorate from Ohio Northern University.
Mr. Shutt has served on the advisory board of the arts of sciences program at Ohio Northern University and as president of the Citizens Advisory Board of The Ohio State University in 1992 and 1993. He is a member of the National Restaurant Association and a charter member of the Restaurant Hall of Fame of Ohio.
Harry Shutt is recognized as a strong supporter of all school activities and is well respected for his community service.
