The district has 2 exceptional Magnet Schools. One focuses on the Arts and the other Science and Technology. Presently, the Arts Magnet is housed at Liberty, 338 W. Kibby Street, and the Science and Technology Magnet is housed at South, 755 St. Johns Avenue.  Each building is a Kindergarten through 8th grade theme-based school.  Students have full academic programs and demonstrate their understanding of concepts through the school's theme.  Both schools are open to all students and are under the lottery process for entry.  Anyone interested in touring the schools or have questions about the integrated learning style should call Sally Windle, Director of the Magnet Programs, 419-996-3434.

What is the Arts Magnet? The Arts Magnet Program, grades Kindergarten through eight, focuses on Art, Dance, Drama and Music as the center of an integrated curriculum. This means the Arts are woven into all subjects, often with an “Artist in Residence” or exciting themes. Students in all grades experience Art, Drama, Dance and Music daily with highly qualified staff. 

What kind of student succeeds in the Arts Magnet Program? This program can be demanding of the students because it is very exciting and full of “hands on” learning. The school day moves very rapidly. Qualities of successful Arts Magnet students include:

• the ability to work independently; to initiate learning
• the ability to be self-disciplined and motivated
• parents who are supportive of this type of education. We encourage parents to be volunteers and active in our academically successful Arts Magnet.

Once my child has been accepted into the Arts Magnet program, will he or she be required to re-apply every year? Once your child has been accepted into the Arts Magnet, he or she will not have to reapply.

What is the Science/Technology Magnet? The Science-Technology Magnet Program, grades Kindergarten through eight, focuses on Science and Technology for the 21st Century and beyond. Science and Technology is woven through all subject areas with a variety of strategies and themes in an integrated curriculum. This means that the Science and Technology is the focus of all learning.  Sample programs in the curriculum include Robotics, Project Lead the Way, and Engineering/Design.  There are additional partnerships with local colleges and experts from the community who participate with the students and teachers in exciting themes throughout the year to enhance the understanding of Science and Technology. Students in all grades experience a high quality, fast-paced education from a highly qualified staff.
