Welcome to the Independence Elementary School website. Our school has served the families of Lima’s North Side since 2004. As a K-4 building, yearly activities are varied and supported by staff and the local PTS.
The first chapter of K-Kids in a four-county area began here in 2009. The community service oriented group is closely sponsored by the Kiwanis and performs many charitable activities during the school year. Independence also piloted a Strings Program for our fourth-grade students and has since expanded the program.
Our second through fourth-grade students are members of our very popular house system. Student “Houses” meet weekly with their house teachers and earn points for their houses’ chances to spin the big wheel. Our school also has a Student Council and often is involved in fundraising for various community organizations.
In addition to these unique programs, Independence annually holds various events, including chill and grill family picnic, a skate night, book fairs, a spring carnival, Christmas program, blood drive, fourth grade recognition, and a field day.
Students also benefit from receiving Title One services, two mobile and two stationary computer labs, full time nurse, librarian and social worker. At Independence, with the support of our families and community, we daily operate to fulfill the mission of the Lima City Schools; providing a climate in which every student learns.
I would welcome the opportunity to speak with you about our school or how you can become involved in our school at Independence.
