Aug. 8: Back to School Celebration & School Supply Giveaway

The Lima City Schools will hold its annual Back to School Celebration and School Supply Giveaway from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 8, at Martin Luther King Park, 400 E. Eighth St.

As always, the event will allow students to select a bookbag and fill it with school supplies. There will also be a meal for the whole family, games and activities. The Spartan Face Painters will be on hand an there will be various community resources and information available.

The school supplies are donated by businesses, organizations and individuals in the community. This year, the district received a $5,000 grant from the Cenovus Lima Refinery.

Other sponsors so far include Aktion Club, Altrusa International, Bob Evans Farms, Grace Community Church, Lima Kiwanis Club, Lima Congress of School Administrative Personnel, Lima Education Association, Lima Memorial Health System, Market Street Presbyterian Church, OAPSE and the Salvation Army.

Thanks also to the City of Lima for the use of MLK Park.

The district will continue to accept donated supplies at 600 E Wayne St. (bus garage) until Aug. 1. The garage is open from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Monetary Donations are also accepted. Checks should be made out to the Lima City Schools with "School Supplies" written in the memo box. Checks can be mailed to the Lima City Schools Treasurer Office, 755 St. Johns Ave., Lima, OH 45804.
